NH NongHyup Bank announced Wednesday that it has established a dedicated telephone companion service unit within its customer happiness center and will hire fixed-term, work-from-home employees with severe disabilities. The move aims to expand employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities while providing emotional support to elderly residents in rural areas and those living alone.
The hired workers will regularly call elderly customers who have signed up for the telephone companion service to check on their health and daily lives and engage them in warm conversation. The bank said it plans to hire a double-digit number of staff for the roles.
The positions are designed as work-from-home jobs so that people with severe disabilities who face difficulties commuting or traveling can work from their own homes. The arrangement is notable in that workers carry out their duties from their own living environments while providing ongoing communication and emotional support to elderly participants.
The initiative is a mutually beneficial social contribution employment model that gives people with severe disabilities the chance to participate in society and economic life through meaningful work, while giving elderly people an opportunity to ease loneliness and share the small moments of daily life.
"This hiring initiative was designed to expand opportunities for people with severe disabilities to participate in economic activity, while at the same time delivering warm greetings to elderly people who need social attention and care," a bank official said. "We will continue to develop this as a model for creating social value in which people with disabilities and the elderly can be a source of strength for one another."
Applicants must be people with severe disabilities who are able to work from home. Applications are being accepted through NH NongHyup Bank's recruitment website from Aug. 4 through Aug. 12. Further details on eligibility, working conditions and the hiring process are available on the recruitment website.
