LIG announced Tuesday that it has participated for the third consecutive year as a corporate sponsor of the "815 Run" campaign, organized by Habitat for Humanity Korea to mark Liberation Day.

Now in its seventh edition, the 815 Run is a charity marathon campaign aimed at improving the living conditions of independence patriots' descendants who fall outside the reach of the welfare system.

Six LIG affiliates — including LIG Co., LIG Defence & Aerospace and LIG Systems — each contributed 8.15 million won ($5,760) for a combined total of 48.9 million won. All donations and campaign proceeds will go toward residential improvement projects for independence patriots' descendants through Habitat for Humanity Korea.

"We express our deep gratitude and respect for the dedication and sacrifice of the independence patriots who made today's Republic of Korea possible," a LIG official said. "We will continue to expand our support for improving the quality of life of their descendants, as well as a range of patriotism-themed corporate social responsibility programs."

LIG also carries out a variety of other social contribution activities beyond its support for independence patriots' descendants. In March, it donated 70 million won to Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital to support medically underserved patients.
