A new road directly connecting Seokjang-dong and Sangu-ri in Hyeongok-myeon in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, will open temporarily before the Chuseok holiday.

Gyeongju city officials said Monday that the urban planning road project linking the Dongguk University area and Hyeongok Sangu, currently 85 percent complete, is set for a temporary opening next month.

Full completion is scheduled for October.

The project involves building a two-lane road stretching 1.35 kilometers and 11 meters wide, running from in front of Hwarang Village in Seokjang-dong to near the community center in Sangu 3-ri, Hyeongok-myeon.

The total project cost is 10.8 billion won ($7.63 million), with 1.3 billion won coming from provincial funds and 9.5 billion won from the city budget.

Most of the major construction work is now in its final stages.

Once open, the road is expected to ease travel between Seokjang-dong and the Hyeongok Sangu area and significantly improve accessibility between the two communities.

"We will quickly wrap up the remaining work so residents can use the road before Chuseok," Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young said. "I hope the opening will reduce inconvenience for residents and contribute to balanced development across the region."
