Yecheon-gun chief An Byeong-yun met North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo at the provincial government building on Friday to request continued provincial support for a series of projects aimed at positioning Yecheon as a "new growth hub."

An opened the meeting by expressing gratitude for the province's efforts and resolve in working to address the healthcare gap in northern North Gyeongsang Province through the recruitment of a national medical school.

He then presented eight key agenda items and called for administrative and fiscal support, including the activation of a development consultative body for the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government new town, the creation of a K-food cluster, the development of a family-friendly park along Songpyeongcheon stream, and the establishment of a region-specific rental smart farm.

On the new town development consultative body, An proposed strengthening cooperation among North Gyeongsang Province, Yecheon-gun, Andong and the North Gyeongsang Province Development Corp. to build greater momentum on shared priorities.

He also outlined a plan to link the urban advanced industrial complex with the province's K-food industry development initiative, building an industrial ecosystem spanning research and development through demonstration, commercialization and production. The plan would concentrate food companies and research functions in the area to bolster the new town's self-sustaining capacity.

An further requested support for the Songpyeongcheon family-friendly park to improve residential conditions in the new town, as well as for a region-specific rental smart farm in Jibo-myeon to nurture young farmers and expand the foundation for future agriculture.

"We will continue to build an active partnership with North Gyeongsang Province so that Yecheon can take an even greater leap forward as a new growth hub city in the northern region," An said.
