Jungnang-gu in Seoul has kicked off work on the Myeongmok Line light rail project, a long-sought infrastructure goal for the district, holding a public hearing and residents' briefing to accelerate the process.

The district announced Monday that it co-hosted the "Myeongmok Line Master Plan Public Hearing and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Briefing" with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the Jungnang-gu District Office on Thursday.

The Myeongmok Line is an urban rail route that would run from Sinnae Station through Sinnaedong and Myeongmokdong to Cheongnyangni Station. The project was incorporated into Seoul's second urban rail network development plan in 2020 and passed a preliminary feasibility study in June 2024. The Seoul Metropolitan Government commissioned a master plan study in October of that year, and planning work is currently underway.

At the public hearing, officials shared the key contents of the draft master plan and the preliminary strategic environmental impact assessment for the Myeongmok Line project, and gathered residents' opinions.

The district said it plans to work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to keep administrative procedures on track and actively support the project toward a 2034 opening. Officials expect the line to position Jungnang-gu as a transportation hub for northeastern Seoul.

"We will cooperate closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to ensure the project proceeds without a hitch, and do our utmost to help Jungnang-gu emerge as a transportation hub and a competitive city in the northeastern part of Seoul," district chief Ryu Gyeong-gi said.
