The Ministry of Interior and Safety's National Disaster Safety Education Institute signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Power Exchange, Gwangju University and the Korea Disaster Safety Technology Institute on Friday to advance education, research, technology development and professional training in the disaster safety field.
The signing ceremony, held Thursday, was designed to raise expertise in disaster safety by pooling each institution's specialized knowledge, technology and educational infrastructure, while strengthening each organization's disaster response capabilities.
Under the agreement, the four institutions will actively pursue joint research and policy development in disaster safety, as well as research and technology exchanges covering the power industry and the management of disasters affecting critical national infrastructure.
They also agreed to collaborate on developing curricula, content and customized training materials for professional workforce development, and to co-host seminars, academic conferences and workshops to share research findings and build expert networks.
Moon Yeong-hun, director of the National Disaster Safety Education Institute, said building a broad range of response capabilities — covering not only natural disasters but also social disasters involving critical national infrastructure such as the power grid — is becoming increasingly important. "Based on this MOU, we will do our utmost to systematically develop skilled professionals by sharing expertise and capabilities across institutions, and to build a safe society where the public can feel secure," he said.
