Incheon Metropolitan City on Thursday appointed Park Rok-sam, a former editorial writer at the Seoul Sinmun, as its new spokesperson.

Mayor Park Chan-dae presented Park Rok-sam with an appointment certificate at city hall on Thursday. The position, classified as a local grade-3 open-recruitment post, carries a two-year term renewable for up to five years.

Park brings extensive experience from a long career in journalism. During the June 3 local elections, he served as spokesperson for Mayor Park Chan-dae's campaign and continued in that role on the mayoral transition committee.

A native of Gwangju, Park graduated from Seoseok High School there before earning a degree in Chinese language and literature from Hanyang University. He joined the Seoul Sinmun in 1999 and worked across the political, social, culture and policy desks, later serving as head of the internet department, chair of the employee stock ownership association and head of the union chapter. He subsequently served as an editorial writer and as senior vice president of the Korea Journalists Association.

Park has also pursued a career as a novelist alongside his journalism work. In 2024, he made his literary debut by winning the rookie prize in the fiction category of the May 18 Literary Award for his work "Please Wait a Little."
