Netflix has confirmed production of its original film "Dochabi" and unveiled the cast lineup.

"Dochabi" — a native Korean word for "dokkaebi," a goblin-like spirit from Korean folklore — is an action Sageuk set on a border region where slash-and-burn farmers have formed a settlement. The story follows Taesan, a former military officer living in hiding alongside Ahai, a Jurchen woman, as he battles Idogwan, a mysterious masked figure who hunts the settlers, and comes to be known as the "Dochabi."

Director Ahn Tae-jin, who drew critical and audience acclaim with his debut film "Owl" (2022), takes the helm, with screenwriter Hwang Seong-gu of "The King's Warden" penning the script. The film is produced by Onda Works, whose first production, "The King's Warden," set an all-time box office record in South Korean cinema.

"With compelling characters, a gripping story and high-quality production, the film will deliver a fresh take on the action Sageuk genre unlike anything seen before," Netflix said.

The diverse cast — featuring Kim Do-hoon, Jeon Jong-seo, Lee Joon-gi, Lee Sang-i and Bae In-hyuk — is generating considerable anticipation.

Kim Do-hoon plays Taesan, delivering intense action and emotional performance. The character was falsely branded a barbarian ringleader amid a mysterious conspiracy, survives like a monster and ultimately becomes the "Dochabi" — a protector who fights like a ghost to defend the people.

Jeon Jong-seo takes on the role of Ahai, a woman of swift movement and exceptional martial skill who fights alongside Taesan. Lee Joon-gi plays Idogwan, the supreme commander of the border region — a character driven by deep ambition for power. Lee is expected to bring another defining role to life through his signature charisma, commanding action and sharp performance.

Lee Sang-i plays Inspector Park Se-ryong, an official who travels to the northern frontier after reports emerge of unidentified masked figures in the area. Bae In-hyuk portrays Crown Prince Yeolhwagun, a character whose deep inner world and emotional depth convey a profound sense of responsibility and compassion for the slash-and-burn farmers enduring hardship.
