Mirae Asset Securities posted net profit of more than 1.9 trillion won ($1.34 billion) in the second quarter of this year, becoming the first securities firm in the industry to surpass 1 trillion won in net profit for two consecutive quarters. Strong growth in its core domestic businesses, combined with contributions from overseas subsidiaries and trading operations, pushed first-half cumulative net profit close to 3 trillion won.
The company announced Wednesday that its consolidated net profit for the second quarter of 2026 reached 1.91 trillion won, marking the first time a Korean securities firm has exceeded 1 trillion won in net profit in back-to-back quarters.
On a consolidated basis, second-quarter pre-tax profit came in at 2.53 trillion won and net profit at 1.91 trillion won, up 86 percent and 90 percent quarter-on-quarter, respectively. Equity at the end of the second quarter stood at 16.2 trillion won, and the annualized return on equity for the first half reached 39.5 percent. Cumulative first-half pre-tax profit was 3.89 trillion won and net profit was 2.91 trillion won, up 349 percent and 338 percent year-on-year, respectively.
Mirae Asset Securities said stable profit growth across its key business lines — wealth management, pension, brokerage and trading — has further strengthened its capacity for recurring earnings.
Domestic operations maintained solid momentum, led by the brokerage and wealth management segments on the back of expanding customer assets and increased trading activity. Second-quarter brokerage commission revenue rose 36 percent quarter-on-quarter to 625.6 billion won, while financial product sales commission revenue hit a record 131 billion won, surpassing the previous quarter's 112.5 billion won. Total domestic and overseas customer assets under management reached 784 trillion won, up 124 trillion won from the first quarter.
Pension assets grew consistently, crossing 80 trillion won as of the end of June. Retirement pension reserves grew more than 60 percent over the past year, roughly 2.5 times the market average. The company recently introduced a retirement pension robo-wrap service — handling everything from portfolio construction to actual trading on a discretionary basis — through individual retirement pension accounts, further advancing its tailored asset management solutions.
Overseas subsidiaries delivered record results, driven by recurring revenue growth and gains on investment asset valuations. Second-quarter pre-tax profit from overseas operations reached approximately 609.1 billion won, with major hubs contributing broadly: the United States accounted for 37 percent, Hong Kong 35 percent, London 18 percent and India 5 percent. The overseas units' contribution to consolidated pre-tax profit rose to about 24 percent, up 6 percentage points quarter-on-quarter.
Trading and other financial income surged 107 percent quarter-on-quarter to 836.9 billion won, while investment banking fee revenue climbed 65 percent to 42.8 billion won, reflecting broad-based earnings improvement across major business lines.
Mirae Asset Securities is expanding its next-generation asset management ecosystem around a global investment platform. In June, it launched MAPS — a global investment platform spanning both traditional and digital assets — in Hong Kong, with plans to roll the service out gradually to major markets including the United States and Singapore. The company is also developing an inbound distribution platform that would allow global investors to invest directly in Korean shares and Mirae Asset ETFs.
In digital finance, the company is building out the necessary infrastructure ahead of the formalization of the security token offering regime, and plans to expand the digital finance ecosystem — including real-world asset tokenization and STOs — by leveraging synergies with Digital X (formerly Korbit).
Mirae Asset Group has been accelerating its push into digital assets following its recent acquisition of Korbit. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said on July 9 that it had approved the acquisition of Korbit, a virtual asset brokerage, by Mirae Asset Consulting. Mirae Asset Consulting is a non-financial affiliate of the Mirae Asset conglomerate whose revenue comes primarily from hotel operations. Other financial affiliates of Mirae Asset include Mirae Asset Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments.
Korbit is a virtual asset exchange that supports won-denominated trading. Under the Act on Reporting and Using Specified Financial Transaction Information, only five domestic virtual asset exchanges are licensed for won trading: Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Gopax and Korbit. Among them, Korbit ranked fourth last year with a 0.5 percent share of virtual asset trading volume.
"It is an unwavering principle of Mirae Asset Securities that the company's sustained growth and corporate value go hand in hand with the growth of our customers' assets," a company official said. "We will continue to deepen long-term trust with our customers and develop into a global investment platform that contributes to their successful asset management."
