July heat wave days hit 8.9 — up 4.8 from average

Contracts at 2026 Korea Build Week up year-on-year

Multi-chamber design, super double-low-E glass boost cooling efficiency

High-insulation windows, long valued for cutting winter heating costs, are drawing fresh attention as a tool for improving summer cooling efficiency. As heat waves and tropical nights persist, demand for window replacements is spreading beyond the traditional pre-winter season into the summer months.

LX Hausys said Wednesday that contracts signed at its exhibition booth during the 2026 Korea Build Week — held Aug. 5-8 at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul — increased compared with the same event a year earlier.

Consumer inquiries at the fair centered on the company's high-insulation View Frame window. The product uses a multi-chamber structure that divides the interior of the sash and frame into multiple compartments, achieving a top energy-efficiency rating of Grade 1. It reduces heat transfer from outside while helping maintain the cooler indoor temperatures produced by air conditioning.

The View Frame can also be fitted with LX Glass's super double-low-E glass, which applies two layers of silver coating to the glass surface. The product lowers the solar heat gain coefficient — the proportion of solar heat transmitted indoors — below that of conventional single-low-E glass, focusing on limiting indoor temperature rises during summer.

Industry officials say that as heat waves grow longer, insulation performance will increasingly be seen as a factor in summer cooling efficiency, not just winter heating. Attention is also turning to whether summer could become an established season for window replacements, as some homeowners look to schedule installations before the busy autumn interior-renovation season.

Installation convenience has also been improved. The View Frame supports one-day installation — from removal of the existing window to completion of the new unit — typically running from around 9 a.m. to around 6 p.m., reducing the noise and dust associated with longer construction work. The product also features a bezel-less frame and a slimmer sash to maximize the glass area.

"Abnormal weather conditions, including heat waves that last far longer than in previous years, are continuing, and concerns about cooling costs are growing," an LX Hausys official said. "Demand for high-insulation windows that help improve cooling efficiency is expected to keep expanding."

Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration said the national average number of heat wave days in July this year was 8.9, up 4.8 days from the historical average of 4.1. The number of tropical nights reached 9.7 — the longest on record — and the average July temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius was the third highest ever recorded.
