Hanjin employees completed more than 2,300 hours of AI training in the first half of this year, as the logistics company expanded its curriculum from basic generative AI skills to coding and workflow automation. In the second half, it plans to strengthen hands-on training in which employees build their own AI agents.

Hanjin said Wednesday that its employees logged a combined 2,329 hours of online and offline AI training in the first half of the year.

The offline program drew 410 participants who completed 1,395 hours of instruction, while 389 employees took online courses totaling 934 hours. Training is open to volunteers, and a significant number of programs received more applicants than available spots.

Courses are tiered by employees' level of AI experience. Introductory sessions cover prompt engineering — the practice of crafting instructions to draw desired responses from generative AI tools.

More advanced courses introduce vibe coding, a method in which users describe a desired function to an AI in plain language rather than writing complex programming code directly, allowing them to build programs and services without traditional coding skills.

Hanjin also runs interactive programs beyond conventional lectures. Among them are "Crunch Day (Creative+Lunch)," a lunchtime session where employees share AI tips with one another, and "AI Academy," which examines how AI is reshaping the industry.

The company also held "League of Hanjin," a team-based program in which groups use AI to tackle simulated workplace problems, encouraging employees to find their own ways to apply AI to real on-the-job challenges.

In the second half, the training focus shifts to practical application. The centerpiece is an AI agent development course. AI agents are programs designed to analyze given data and independently carry out the necessary judgments and tasks, making them useful for automating repetitive work.

Hanjin also plans to expand training on AI-powered analysis of logistics data, with the goal of enabling employees to process and analyze large datasets themselves and apply the results to tasks such as drafting sales proposals and automating logistics operations.

Hanjin has also set up an environment for employees to use generative AI in their day-to-day work, giving all staff access to Gemini Pro, Google's generative AI service.

"AI is no longer optional — it is a core competency every employee must have," a Hanjin official said. "Through practice-oriented training, we will continue to build an organizational culture where all employees use AI naturally and to drive ongoing workplace innovation."
