Seoul Metro (President Kim Tae-gyun) said Tuesday it hosted a subway safety experience event for 20 children from a community child center in Seongdong-gu, inviting them to the Citizens' Safety Experience Center at Banpo Station and presenting the center with a sponsorship donation.
The event offered hands-on safety education designed to help children respond correctly to accidents and emergencies that can arise while using the subway.
Participants practiced fire evacuation procedures through a virtual reality simulation and built emergency response skills by learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to operate an automated external defibrillator.
The program also featured a train simulator driving experience, train model origami and a visit to an exhibition hall — activities tailored to children's interests to boost engagement. Organizers structured the day around direct observation, hands-on experience and practical drills rather than classroom instruction, enhancing the educational impact.
After the activities concluded, Seoul Metro extended its community outreach by presenting the child center with Onuri gift vouchers and commemorative items.
The event linked children's safety education with community giving, realizing two goals simultaneously — raising safety awareness and contributing to society — and has been cited as a meaningful example of Seoul Metro's ESG practice.
"We hope this was a meaningful occasion for the children to enjoy the safety experience and put what they learned into practice in their daily lives," a Seoul Metro official said. "We plan to continue expanding safety education and community outreach programs for local residents going forward."
