Pohang Mayor Park Yong-seon visited Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital, a regional emergency medical center, on Monday to meet with hospital director Han Dong-seon and other officials.

The meeting focused on the challenges facing essential regional healthcare, including the concentration of medical resources in the Greater Seoul area and the weakening of local medical infrastructure.

Hospital officials described the difficulties local institutions face in securing qualified medical personnel and raised concerns about gaps in care caused by a doctor shortage and the migration of essential medical staff to the Greater Seoul area.

They called for municipal-level support and practical measures to help local institutions recruit medical workers, noting that securing the necessary personnel at the regional level poses significant real-world challenges.

Park listened to the concerns and recommendations raised by hospital officials and expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their efforts to sustain essential local healthcare despite difficult conditions.

"We will continue to communicate and cooperate with local medical institutions to create an environment where residents can receive quality medical services with peace of mind," Park said.
