KAIST has selected Kim Myeong-ju, former deputy governor for economic affairs of South Gyeongsang Province, as its 19th auditor.

The Education Ministry minister's consent and the deputy prime minister and Science and ICT Ministry minister's approval are required before Kim's appointment is finalized. His three-year term runs through 2029.

Kim graduated from Seoul National University and holds master's degrees in business administration from KDI School of Public Policy and Management and the University of Missouri, as well as a doctorate in public administration from Gongju National University.

After passing the 39th state administrative examination (finance track) in 1995, Kim built a career spanning central government and local administration — serving as audit officer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, administrative secretary at the presidential secretariat, consul at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, and deputy governor for economic affairs of South Gyeongsang Province.

Drawing on that experience in administration and auditing across central ministries and local governments, Kim is expected to contribute to transparent and sound university governance and strengthen institutional accountability at KAIST.
