Hana Bank announced Monday that it has signed an MOU with the Korean Liberation Association to promote welfare projects supporting independence movement patriots and their descendants, marking the 81st Liberation Day.

The agreement draws on trust profits from the "Liberation 70th Anniversary Nara-sarang Public Trust," which Hana Bank took on as trustee in 2015, to support independence movement patriots and their descendants and advance the social value of public trust instruments.

Under the MOU, the two organizations will jointly pursue a commemorative project marking the 150th birth anniversary of independence leader Kim Gu, known by his pen name Baekbeom, with the aim of passing on the history of liberation and the spirit of independence to future generations while expanding practical support for descendants of independence patriots.

The Liberation 70th Anniversary Nara-sarang Public Trust was established in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of liberation and raise funds dedicated to supporting independence movement patriots.

As trustee, Hana Bank will return the principal to subscribers upon maturity and use the remaining trust profits to fund a range of welfare projects for independence patriots and their descendants.

Through the Kim Gu 150th birth anniversary project, Hana Bank plans to provide scholarships and livelihood support for descendants of independence patriots, sponsor field trips to sites connected with the independence movement and academic research, and support organizations and commemorative initiatives related to the independence cause.

Hana Bank also launched a savings product called "Daehanminguk Manse" in June, designed for national merit recipients and uniformed service members.

"It is deeply meaningful to take part in projects that can provide real help to independence patriots and their descendants on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation and the 150th birth anniversary of Kim Gu," Hana Bank President Lee Ho-sung said. "We will continue to fulfill finance's social role by spreading a positive culture of giving through the public trust system."
