Yeongcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province said Monday that Kim Byung-kee, former head of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government's agricultural transformation division, took office as the city's 23rd deputy mayor.
Rather than holding a formal inauguration ceremony, Kim began his duties Monday with an informal meeting with Yeongcheon Mayor Kim Byung-sam before touring community sites and city hall departments.
In remarks marking his appointment, Kim said he would work alongside Yeongcheon city officials to successfully carry out the city's key policy initiatives and pending projects, including efforts to attract the headquarters of the Korea Racing Authority.
Kim first entered public service in Yeongcheon in 1992 and has since served as head of the city's policy planning office, auditor-general of North Gyeongsang Province, and senior specialist for the provincial assembly's steering committee.
