A data breach at Sampro TV, an investment information platform, has exposed the personal information of roughly 460,000 members, including bank account and credit card details belonging to some users.

According to the information and communications industry Sunday, Sampro TV's operator, eBroadcasting, announced on its website that an external actor had illegally accessed the Sampro TV application and obtained other users' personal data without authorization.

eBroadcasting said it detected signs of suspected unauthorized access to user data earlier this month and launched an investigation.

The company has estimated the total number of compromised records at approximately 460,000 and has individually notified affected members for whom it holds contact information.

The scope of leaked data varies by member. Items confirmed to have been exposed include names, profile information, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, bank account details, service usage records, device information, card names, masked card numbers and service activity logs.

Of those, two address records, 2,972 bank account records and 317 credit card records were confirmed leaked.

However, the company said resident registration numbers and other unique identification and sensitive data were never collected in the first place and were therefore not among the information exposed.

eBroadcasting reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.

The company urged Sampro TV members to be especially vigilant against impersonation phone calls or text messages that may exploit the leaked data. It asked users who receive calls, texts or emails from unknown or suspicious sources not to open any links or attachments, and to delete or report them.
