The Korean National Police Agency on Saturday introduced cats living at police stations across the country to mark World Cat Day.

The agency posted photos on SNS showing cats mingling with officers, along with a message that read: "In celebration of World Cat Day, we introduce the cats living side by side with police officers at stations and district units."

Among those featured was "Go Sungyeong" — a play on the Korean word for rookie officer — a cat that has called the Seosin Police Box under Hwaseong Western Police Station home for more than a year. "Go Sungyeong is a full member of the Seosin Police Box family," an official said. "She gets along well with the box chief and occasionally brings in mice or bugs as a token of gratitude."

At Seonbu 2 Police Box under Ansan Danwon Police Station, a cat named "Sani" has developed a telling preference: she gravitates toward officers in uniform but bolts the moment they change into plain clothes, an official said. Also introduced were "Pposiraegi," a seven-year fixture at the Sanbon District Unit of Gunpo Police Station, and "Kkamssi," a 10-year veteran of Icheon Police Station.

"Please cheer on these longtime guardians of our police stations," a police official said.
