The Busan Port Authority (BPA) held a campaign Thursday to promote the use of marine and fisheries public data at the National Maritime Museum of Korea, jointly with five institutions participating in the marine and fisheries public data consortium, the authority announced Friday.
The campaign brought together the BPA and four other consortium members: the National Maritime Museum of Korea, the Korea Ocean Business Corporation, the Korea Maritime Institute and the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology. The consortium has been operating since its 2024 launch with the aim of strengthening data-sharing cooperation among marine and fisheries public institutions in the Busan area and expanding the provision of public data.
At the event, the BPA introduced visitors to key public datasets it has made available — including cargo volume statistics for Busan Port and container transport data — and guided them on how to use the Public Data Portal (www.data.go.kr). The authority particularly emphasized that the data it provides can be used broadly for logistics analysis, policy research and the development of AI- and big data-based services.
In addition, the consortium conducted a survey of visitors on what data they would like to see made publicly available, with the goal of improving the quality of existing marine and fisheries public data and identifying valuable new datasets. Based on the results, the participating institutions plan to expand the release of public data in a demand-driven manner that reflects the needs of the public.
