29 works selected from 143 entries for W300m 'The First Page with Moorim'
MOUs signed Thursday; support spans paper supply, quality consulting and post-publication marketing
Moorim Paper, an eco-friendly paper manufacturer, finalized the selected works for its publishing and printing creative support project "The First Page with Moorim" and signed memorandums of understanding with participating publishers and creators on Thursday, kicking off full-scale collaboration.
The project is a paper supply initiative worth 300 million won ($210,000) that Moorim Paper established to foster a sustainable publishing and printing ecosystem. Conducted as an open competition with no restrictions on publication format or participant type, the program drew 143 submissions in June from a broad range of applicants — major domestic publishers, independent presses and individual creators alike — with 29 works ultimately selected. The breakdown by category is 10 major-publishing titles, 15 small-publishing titles and four paper goods items.
In the major-publishing category, RH Korea, publisher of "Project Hail Mary," and Forest Books, publisher of "Choyeok Bucheoui Mal," were among those selected, along with Book21 and Humanist Publishing Group. The small-publishing category includes picture-book specialist Kkoma Snowman as well as independent presses and individual creators such as Munundang, Neurin Seojae, Yaong Seoga and Pureun Chilpan. In the paper goods category, Parkyoungsa and Studio Key were chosen and plan to use Moorim paper for 2027 calendars and diaries.
Moorim Paper plans to supply paper to each selected work on a rolling schedule aligned with individual production timelines, provide ongoing quality consulting throughout the printing process and extend marketing collaboration through its own channels after publication. The company said it intends to develop the project beyond simple paper sponsorship into a mutual-growth platform where publishers and creators can advance together.
"This project is meaningful not as a one-time paper handout but as the foundation of a sustainable partnership where publishers, printers and creators can grow together," a Moorim Paper official said. "We will continue to support creators as a reliable partner so they can bring great works to the public."
