The detective leading the investigation into an arson attack at an apartment management office in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, has been found dead.

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency said Sunday that a senior inspector in his 50s, identified only as A, from the Gyeongsan Police Station's criminal investigations division, was found dead near a reservoir in Docheon-myeon, Changnyeong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police launched a search after the inspector's family reported losing contact with him, tracking his location through his mobile phone. He was already dead when officers arrived.

Inspector A had been serving as the lead detective on the arson case at the Gyeongsan apartment management office, which occurred July 23.

In that incident, a resident in his 70s sprayed flammable material inside the apartment complex's management office and set it on fire on the morning of July 23, killing three people and injuring five others, including the suspect himself.
