North Gyeongsang Provincial Police have applied for an arrest warrant for Yecheon-gun County Chief An Byeong-yun.
The provincial police agency's Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit 2 filed the warrant application Friday against An on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
An is accused of providing cash and gifts to journalists in his constituency ahead of the ninth nationwide local elections.
Police had earlier conducted a two-day search and seizure of An's home and office beginning July 25, securing related evidence.
A pretrial detention hearing for An is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at the Sangju Branch of the Daegu District Court.
