Dong-A Otsuka said it has launched a label-free version of Pocari Sweat in 500ml (pictured), removing the plastic label to cut plastic waste and improve recycling convenience.
The company first introduced a label-free design on its 340ml product in 2024 and has now extended the format to the 500ml size. Dong-A Otsuka said the move is expected to eliminate about 900 kilograms of plastic per 1 million units produced.
Pocari Sweat was the first in the industry to add a perforated tear line to PET bottle labels, making them easier to separate for recycling. The brand has also run a "Blue Label Campaign." A "Pocari Sweat Can QR Campaign" is currently underway. Consumers can participate by scanning the QR code on the lid of the 240ml can, with prizes available through Aug. 31.
"The launch of the label-free Pocari Sweat is part of our effort to make recycling more convenient for consumers and to bring resource circulation into everyday life," Park Cheol-ho, president and CEO of Dong-A Otsuka, said. "We will continue to pursue a variety of initiatives with the environment in mind."
