President Lee Jae Myung will dispatch a special envoy delegation to attend the inauguration of Peru's incoming President Keiko Fujimori on Monday, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.
The delegation — comprising Assembly members Min Hong-chul, who chairs the Korea-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Association, Kang Min-guk and Lee Gi-heon — will brief the new Peruvian government on South Korea's governing philosophy and foreign policy, and deliver a personal letter from Lee along with his message on advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
The envoys will also attend inauguration-related events, including a reception hosted by Peruvian Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja for delegations from various countries and an inaugural reception hosted by President-elect Fujimori. Through these engagements, the delegation will convey Seoul's commitment to deepening defense and security cooperation with Peru, South Korea's largest defense industry partner in South America.
The delegation is also expected to hold in-depth discussions on expanding bilateral economic cooperation built on the Korea-Peru free trade agreement, with a focus on strengthening practical collaboration in areas including critical minerals and infrastructure.
