The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education announced Monday it will run a mobile English program — bringing native-speaking teachers directly to schools — at 22 elementary and middle schools across the province for four weeks through Aug. 14.

The program, launched for the first time this year, was designed to give students at schools without a resident native English-speaking assistant teacher access to high-quality English learning experiences.

The provincial education office opened five courses, including topic-based English conversation classes, tailored to students' interests and each school's conditions. Each cohort runs 12 to 20 hours over three to five days, with each cohort running three to five days a week.

The program will run flexibly across four cohorts in total, with students joining situation-based English communication activities and hands-on lessons alongside native-speaking teachers.

To ensure smooth operations, the office held an online orientation the week of July 13 for participating native-speaking teachers and their Korean teacher counterparts at each school.

The orientation covered the program's direction, classroom management methods and school-specific coordination requirements, and included a question-and-answer session to gather on-the-ground feedback ahead of the program's launch.

"I hope that through this program, students will come to find English more familiar and enjoyable, and build the confidence to communicate with the world," said Im Jong-sik, superintendent of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education.
