Samsung Display has begun mass supply of tandem OLED panels for laptops that meet a new high-brightness display certification, as the company works with global PC manufacturers to expand the premium laptop OLED market on the strength of its enhanced brightness performance.
The company said Monday it is now supplying laptop tandem OLED panels that satisfy the DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1400 standard.
TrueBlack 1400 is the highest-tier OLED image quality certification issued by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association), which unveiled the new standard this month. To qualify, a display must render black at or below 0.0005 nits while achieving a peak brightness of 1,400 nits across 10 percent of the screen area (OPR 10%). The new rating sets a brightness threshold 40 percent higher than the previous top tier, TrueBlack 1000, demanding significantly stronger image quality performance.
Samsung Display's tandem OLED for laptops reaches a panel-level peak brightness of 1,600 nits — more than 40 percent above the 1,100-nit ceiling of conventional single-emissive-layer OLED panels — making it the brightest commercially available OLED display for laptops.
Lenovo's Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition Gen 11, which uses the panel, received TrueBlack 1400 certification on July 8. Asus, Dell Technologies and MSI are expected to unveil products featuring the panel in sequence from the second half of this year through next year.
Tandem OLED achieves high brightness and long lifespan simultaneously by stacking two organic emissive layers. The structure delivers greater luminance at the same drive current, and under typical laptop usage conditions it offers more than twice the lifespan of conventional single-stack OLED panels.
Samsung Display also applied new organic emissive materials that yield higher brightness and improved stability at the same power consumption. The simultaneous gains in brightness and durability further strengthen its competitiveness in the premium IT OLED segment.
Samsung Display will showcase the laptop tandem OLED panels supporting TrueBlack 1400 at K-Display 2026, a Korean display industry exhibition running Wednesday through Friday at COEX in Seoul. The exhibition will recreate video editing and content creation environments so visitors can experience the high-brightness image quality firsthand.
Industry observers expect competition in the premium OLED laptop market to intensify as demand for high-quality displays grows rapidly alongside the spread of AI PCs. Samsung Display's strategy is to reinforce its leadership in the OLED market by leading with its high-brightness and long-lifespan technology.
