The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide Transport Commission is holding a large-scale appreciation event as the "Modoo Card" — a transit card designed to ease commuting costs — approaches 6 million subscribers. As of Monday, the card had 5.81 million subscribers.

The event features three main programs. The "My Refund Certification Challenge" is a participatory event in which cardholders post proof of their transit fee refunds on social media using designated hashtags, including #ModooCard and #6MillionMoves.

A total of 600 subscribers around the 6 millionth sign-up will receive gift vouchers and other prizes, while the 6 millionth subscriber will receive a congratulatory message and a special commemorative gift.

A personal essay contest will also select outstanding submissions for prizes. Participants can submit written accounts of how the card has reduced their transit costs, ways the refunds have helped in their daily lives, or changes in their public transportation habits.

Anyone can take part from Monday through Aug. 19 via the commission's and Modoo Card's websites, as well as the social media channels of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.

The ministry plans to turn selected submissions into card news and short-form video content starting in September to highlight the card's impact on people's daily lives.

Kim Yong-seok, chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide Transport Commission, said the experiences shared directly by users are "a valuable foundation for developing Modoo Card into a more convenient and effective policy," adding that additional refund benefits — including a half-price Modoo Card option — are set to continue through the end of September.
