KB Financial Group announced Thursday that it established the KB AX Digital Asset Fund, a 100 billion won ($67 million) strategic investment fund aimed at leading the digital asset business and accelerating AI transformation (AX), on Wednesday.

KB Kookmin Bank, KB Securities, KB Insurance, KB Kookmin Card and KB Life Insurance are participating as limited partners, with KB Investment serving as the general partner and fund manager.

The fund plans to make early-stage investments in key companies within Korea's nascent digital asset market to build a KB Financial Group-centered digital asset ecosystem. It will also invest in promising technology firms in AI models, application services, and data inference and analytics to support the group's AX acceleration.

KB Financial Group said the fund places particular emphasis on selecting companies that can be linked to the group's digital strategy — going beyond purely financial returns — and connecting those investments to actual business opportunities. Through this approach, the group aims to embody the spirit of productive finance while building a virtuous cycle of investment, business linkage and shared growth.

KB Financial Group Chairman Yang Jong-hee has presented transformation as the group's key strategic keyword for this year, emphasizing that AX goes beyond simply adopting AI technology and must be embedded across the group's broader future strategy.

"We established this fund to lay the strategic investment foundation needed to secure leadership in future digital finance," a KB Financial Group official said. "We will continue to strengthen the group's capacity for innovation through diverse collaboration with portfolio companies and build a digital finance ecosystem where we can grow together."
