A physician in his 70s has been referred to prosecutors on charges of stalking a woman in her 20s, repeatedly contacting her and twice visiting her home to ring the doorbell before fleeing.

Gwangju Buk-gu Police Station said Wednesday it had forwarded the case of the clinic doctor, identified only as A, to prosecutors without seeking his detention, on charges of violating the Act on Punishment of Stalking Crimes.

A, who runs a private clinic in Buk-gu, Gwangju, is accused of repeatedly contacting a woman in her 20s, identified as B, who is a junior acquaintance from his university days. He is also accused of visiting her home twice earlier this year, ringing the doorbell and then fleeing, causing her repeated anxiety.

B's father filed a police complaint against A in March.

About a month after the complaint was filed, A allegedly distributed fake wedding invitations claiming B was to marry his son. In June, he sent reception notices to acquaintances as well.

B and A's son are said to have never met.

A told investigators he committed the acts in order to arrange a marriage between his son and B.

A is currently hospitalized for a pre-existing condition, police said, and the case was forwarded to prosecutors without his detention.
