Kims Club, a supermarket chain operated by Eland, said Wednesday it will launch Summer King, a domestically grown early-season apple.
The stock was secured through a new direct-sourcing contract with growers in Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province, and will be sold at roughly 10 percent below the average market price.
Summer King is an early-season Korean apple variety distinguished by its light green skin. It was developed as a domestic alternative to the Aori, a Japanese variety, and reaches shelves about two weeks earlier than the Aori. The apple is known for its tangy acidity, abundant juice and crisp texture.
Kims Club said it ensured consistent quality by using non-destructive sugar-content testing before harvest to confirm optimal ripeness. The apples average 11 Brix, offering the bright, refreshing taste typical of summer apples alongside a touch of sweetness.
