Yeungnam University of Science and Technology has teamed up with Coupang Fulfillment Services to train AI-based logistics professionals for the advanced logistics industry.

The university held an opening ceremony Tuesday for the AI Logistics Education Center at the Industry-Academia Cooperation Building on campus, jointly with Coupang Fulfillment Services.

About 50 people attended the event, including university President Lee Jae-yong and Coupang Fulfillment Services CEO Jeong Jong-cheol, along with senior university officials, representatives from the Daegu West Employment and Welfare Plus Center and the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, and principals and career guidance teachers from local specialized high schools.

The ceremony opened with remarks from the heads of both institutions, followed by an equipment handover, an unveiling of the center's nameplate and a tour of the AI Logistics Education Center.

The center's opening follows an MOU on AI talent development that the university and Coupang Fulfillment Services signed in September last year. The partnership serves as an industry-academia cooperation model for systematically training smart logistics professionals with the AI skills the industry demands.

Coupang Fulfillment Services equipped the center with three automated guided vehicles and five sorting bots currently in operation at its fulfillment centers. Students will practice hands-on with AI-based logistics automation systems in an environment identical to real industrial sites, building expertise in smart logistics technology and automated operations.

Alongside the center's opening, the university also ran programs linking education with employment.

At Cheonma Square, a work-study hiring interview for Coupang Fulfillment Services drew about 100 applicants from specialized high school graduates.

At the AI Logistics Education Center, AI logistics automation training was conducted for enrolled students, including those in the Smart Convergence Mechanical Engineering program. That afternoon, a job-matching event for unemployed youth — organized in partnership with the Daegu West Employment and Welfare Plus Center — was also held.

"We will actively support students in growing into future-ready logistics professionals with practical skills, in an environment identical to real industrial sites, centered on the AI Logistics Education Center," President Lee said.

Coupang Fulfillment Services CEO Jeong said the partnership had created a foundation for mutual benefit — helping young people enter the workforce on stable footing while giving the company access to strong talent. "We will continue to invest in and support local talent so they can grow into logistics professionals," he added.
