Broadcaster Jang Dong-min has secured another patent for an eco-friendly technology he developed.

TN Entertainment, Jang's agency, distributed a press release Monday announcing the patent.

According to the release, Pureun Haneul — a green startup where Jang serves as chief executive — jointly developed the "Eco Ring" container with Namyang Magic and Dongwon F&B. The technology lightens the neck structure of PET bottles used for food and mineral water.

The Eco Ring reduces plastic use by redesigning the bottle opening while maintaining the same sealing performance and structural strength. It cuts roughly 1.5 grams of plastic per bottle and can be applied without modifying existing production equipment. The same amount of raw material can also yield about 10 percent more output.

"The technology, co-developed by Pureun Haneul and Namyang Magic, focuses on lightening PET bottle packaging while remaining compatible with existing production systems," Jang said. "The primary goal is to reduce plastic use without replacing current equipment."

He added that the technology is already in use on containers for Dongwon tuna sauce and canola oil currently on sale. "Because this technology cuts both plastic use and production costs at the same time, we plan to expand its application further," he said.

Jang made his debut in 2004 as a comedian through KBS's 19th open recruitment and gained wide popularity appearing on "Gag Concert." He later cemented his reputation as the entertainment industry's foremost "genius" through the tvN brain-survival show "The Genius." He has won five programs in total — "The Genius: Black Garnet" (2014), "The Genius: Grand Final" (2015), "Society Game 2" (2017), "Game of Blood 3" (2024) and "Betting on Fact."
