[Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Dong-min) said Monday that Jo Mi-suk, former deputy district mayor of Seodaemun-gu, has taken office as the new deputy district mayor of Dongdaemun-gu.

Jo earned a bachelor's degree in English language and literature from the University of Seoul and a master's degree from the same institution. She built broad administrative experience through a series of key posts at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, including head of the interview team in the press affairs office and director-level roles overseeing lifelong education, public-private cooperation, investigations and tourism policy.

After her promotion to the senior Grade 3 rank, she served as head of fiscal planning, head of welfare planning, head of the Together with the Vulnerable task force, and chief administrative officer at the University of Seoul. She then served as deputy district mayor of Seodaemun-gu, coordinating the full range of autonomous district administration.

Having worked across both the Seoul Metropolitan Government and autonomous districts, Jo is regarded as an administrative expert with hands-on experience in media affairs, fiscal management, welfare, education, tourism and organizational management.

Colleagues describe her working style as calm yet clear-cut. She is known for scrutinizing issues closely, mediating differences between departments, and bringing a systematic, reasoned approach to even the most complex matters.

Her experience as head of welfare planning and head of the Together with the Vulnerable task force is particularly relevant, aligning closely with the policy direction of Dongdaemun-gu's 9th elected-term administration. Since taking office, the district has adopted "deeper care, stronger lives for residents" as its welfare vision and has focused on delivering practical, everyday services that residents can feel directly.

The district said it expects Jo's appointment to strengthen the push on major 9th-term projects, inter-departmental collaboration, and coordination of key policy issues including welfare, education and the local economy.

"Jo Mi-suk is a capable senior official who has accumulated diverse administrative experience across the Seoul Metropolitan Government and autonomous districts," District Mayor Choi said. "We will work together to ensure that the changes and deeper care-oriented governance that Dongdaemun-gu is pursuing in its 9th elected term translate into real results in the lives of our residents."
