Gangwon Province Governor Woo Sang-ho met with Yangyang-gun County Chief Kim Jeong-jung on Friday to discuss pressing local issues as the county works to rebuild public trust.
According to Gangwon Province, Woo visited Yangyang County Office on Friday afternoon and held in-depth talks with Kim on three agenda items: the installation of a cable car at Seoraksan National Park's Osaek area, the development of an eco-friendly smart land-based salmon aquaculture complex, and a tourism development project at Jigyeong in Yangyang. The Namdaecheon River in Yangyang is one of South Korea's most prominent salmon-run sites.
Yangyang's public image had suffered before Kim took office, clouded by the criminal conviction of a former county chief and rumors surrounding the party-heavy atmosphere of the county's surfing village. Since taking office under the banner of "Yangyang on the Rise Again," Kim has emphasized the county's revival — a message he pushed throughout his election campaign — and residents and civil servants alike have been working to gradually restore public confidence.
