Gangnam-gu (district mayor Kim Hyeon-gi) is launching an eco-friendly produce support project for pregnant women and new mothers to help them access nutritious food.
This year, 1,764 pregnant women in the district will each receive 240,000 won ($159) worth of eco-friendly agricultural products annually.
Selected recipients pay only 20% of the purchase price and can buy a range of safe, fresh eco-friendly products — including organic produce, pesticide-free crops, organic processed foods, animal-welfare certified goods and antibiotic-free livestock products. Orders are limited to four times per month, with each order ranging from 40,000 won to 100,000 won.
Eligibility extends to women who are currently pregnant as of the application date or who gave birth on or after Jan. 1, 2025. However, those already receiving support through a public health center's nutrition-plus program or the agricultural food voucher program are not eligible to apply.
Applications will be accepted on Ecoymall from 10 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. July 26. People with disabilities, foreign nationals, and those without a mobile phone registered in their own name may apply in person at the district office's local economy division or at their neighborhood community center. Applications may close early if demand exceeds capacity. The district will select recipients by random lottery in August, and those chosen will be able to purchase eco-friendly produce through Dec. 15.
"Taking care of the health of pregnant women and their children is the starting point for building a healthy community," district mayor Kim said. "I hope this support helps expectant families eat well and, through greater consumption of eco-friendly produce, also gives a boost to farmers."
