Seocho-gu in Seoul announced that it held the "2026 Hope Summer Sharing Campaign" distribution ceremony Thursday at the main auditorium on the second floor of the Seocho-gu Office.
The ceremony was organized ahead of the peak summer heat season to help residents vulnerable to extreme heat spend the summer safely and in good health.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Sung-su attended the event alongside Shin Hye-young, secretary general of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, Park Jun-gi, chief executive of the Seocho Welfare and Care Foundation, and directors of community welfare centers in the district.
The Seocho Welfare and Care Foundation organized the ceremony with a total project grant of 80 million won ($53,000) from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea. The district plans to deliver healthy-summer kits worth 50 million won to 450 low-income households to help them prepare for the heat.
The kit distribution program expanded significantly — from 208 households last year to 450 this year — allowing more vulnerable residents to benefit. The kits, which include air circulators and nutrition packages, will be delivered to individual homes through four local community welfare centers in Banpo, Caritas Bangbae, Yangjae and Umyeon.
Alongside this, the Seoul Community Chest of Korea allocated 30 million won to a community safety-net support project targeting low-income residents, to be used for emergency welfare assistance including cooling and heating costs. The funding is expected to help vulnerable households struggling with prolonged high energy prices and rising living costs, reducing crisis situations and supporting their return to everyday life.
"I am deeply grateful to the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and the private-sector partners who joined us in helping low-income households vulnerable to extreme heat spend the summer safely and in good health," district mayor Jeon said. "We will continue to build a tighter welfare safety net through public-private cooperation so that no vulnerable resident is left behind."
