People Power Party Rep. Lee In-seon (Daegu Suseong-gu B, Daegu chapter chair) announced Thursday that the Deulangil area in Suseong-gu has been selected for two government grant programs simultaneously — the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's region-specific urban regeneration project, worth 26 billion won ($17.2 million), and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' local themed commercial district development project, worth 3 billion won — bringing the total to 29 billion won in planned investment.

The land ministry's region-specific urban regeneration project is an urban renewal initiative designed to boost the area's tourism competitiveness by linking the rich tourism assets of Suseongmot lake with the distinctive character of Deulan Arts Village.

From 2027 through 2030, the project will develop a creative platform combining tourism information, craft workshops and exhibitions, build cultural arts and travel trails to draw visitors, and establish community hub spaces for residents.

The SMEs ministry's local themed commercial district development project, selected alongside the regeneration initiative, aims to move beyond a conventional commercial district model. Local merchants and creators will work together to build a distinctive identity and strengthen branding — cultivating the alley district's capacity for self-sustaining growth and positioning it as a nationally recognized local commercial hub.

"This selection marks a turning point that will elevate the foundation for local economic growth by bringing together Suseongmot's scenic natural environment with Deulangil's food, culture and arts," Lee said.

Lee also pledged that the benefits of the projects would reach residents and merchants in tangible ways. "What matters more than winning the grant is making sure the results actually come back to residents and merchants," he said. "Daegu city and Suseong-gu will work as one team — not stopping at the selection, but seeing through every stage of the process, from drawing up implementation plans to executing the budget."
