The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly held the second plenary session of its 364th extraordinary session on Tuesday, appointing members to standing committees and electing their chairs and vice chairs.

With the election of standing committee chairs following the earlier selection of the speaker and deputy speakers, the assembly completed the organizational setup for the first half of the 13th North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly.

The seven standing committee chairs elected for the first half of the 13th council are: Choi Byeong-geun (Gimcheon) for the Assembly Operations Committee, Kim Chang-hyeok (Gumi) for the Planning and Economy Committee, Kim Il-su (Gumi) for the Administration, Health and Welfare Committee, Kim Dae-jin (Andong) for the Culture and Environment Committee, Lee Cheol-sik (Gyeongsan) for the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee, Lee U-cheong (Gimcheon) for the Construction and Fire Safety Committee, and Jeong Han-seok (Chilgok) for the Education Committee.

Assembly Operations Committee Chair Choi Byeong-geun said the committee "plays a vital role in supporting lawmakers' legislative activities up close and ensuring the smooth operation of the assembly."

Planning and Economy Committee Chair Kim Chang-hyeok said he would "do his utmost to ensure the committee operates as a model of good governance, consulting openly with fellow lawmakers and maintaining close communication with the executive branch."

Administration, Health and Welfare Committee Chair Kim Il-su said he would "strive to be a chair who takes responsibility for the happiness of residents by engaging in legislative activities that stand alongside their lives — addressing public safety, improving welfare, and tackling the crises of low birth rates and regional depopulation."

Culture and Environment Committee Chair Kim Dae-jin said he would "faithfully serve as a bridge with the speaker's office and work together to develop policies and alternatives that provide real benefits to residents' lives through smooth communication with the executive branch."

Agriculture and Fisheries Committee Chair Lee Cheol-sik said he would "listen carefully to voices from the field as an advocate for farmers and fishers, and do his best to build sustainable rural communities and a competitive agricultural and fisheries industry."

Construction and Fire Safety Committee Chair Lee U-cheong said he would "devote full effort as the committee chair to ensuring the success of key infrastructure projects — including the construction of the Daegu-North Gyeongsang new airport — and making North Gyeongsang a safe province free from disasters."

Education Committee Chair Jeong Han-seok said he would "make every effort to listen to voices from the field and carry out legislative activities that students, parents, school staff and local communities can all relate to."

Meanwhile, each standing committee will begin receiving briefings from its relevant departments on Wednesday, formally launching the first-half legislative activities of the 13th North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly.
