Hongcheon-gun's public health programs have earned a triple crown of recognition from both the central government and Gangwon Province.
The Hongcheon-gun Public Health Center has built a resident-centered health management system by systematically running life-cycle and target-group health promotion projects, along with programs to spread healthy lifestyle practices, encourage walking, prevent obesity and manage chronic diseases — all supported by community-participatory health initiatives.
According to Hongcheon-gun on Wednesday, the health center was named the top institution in the general category at the 18th Local Government Health Promotion Project Performance Competition organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, earning a ministerial commendation.
The center had been recognized as an outstanding institution for three consecutive years before receiving this year's highest rating — top institution — marking four consecutive years of awards and national recognition of its capacity to lead community-based health promotion efforts.
The center also received a second ministerial commendation after being named a "2026 Local Government Health Promotion Meritorious Institution" for its contributions to advancing integrated health promotion projects.
The two separate commendations from the Ministry of Health and Welfare recognized both the center's strong operational performance and its contributions to project strategy.
The center also earned a Gangwon Province governor's commendation for outstanding performance in the province's healthy lifestyle practice project, a key provincial policy initiative.
"This triple crown is a precious achievement made possible by the active participation of our residents, the dedication of our health center staff, and the cooperation of community organizations," said Kim Yeon-hwa, head of the health promotion division. "We will continue to expand prevention-focused health promotion projects and pursue locally tailored health policies."
