Railway operator launches 'information security practice program' for all staff
Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) will run an "information security practice program" to strengthen the cybersecurity capabilities of all its employees in observance of Information Security Day on Wednesday.
The program comprises seven events, including a simulated hacking contest, and is designed to raise security awareness both inside and outside the organization as a proactive response to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The centerpiece is a white-hat hacking contest in which participants develop hands-on skills in detecting security threats. The event follows a Capture the Flag (CTF) format — a hacking-and-defense problem-solving competition — in which employees interested in information security log into a simulated webpage and race to identify vulnerabilities and solve challenges as quickly as possible.
Korail has also designated July as "Information Security Emphasis Month" and will run a public awareness campaign that includes displaying everyday cybersecurity tips on electronic boards at major stations nationwide.
On Wednesday, the company will also hold an event at Daejeon Station's main hall, distributing commemorative items to passengers to highlight the importance of information security.
Additional activities include a security pledge drive, a poster contest, on-site security consulting visits, a security officers' workshop, and a public outreach campaign on information security and personal data protection. The workshop and pledge drive will be extended to all Korail subsidiaries — Korail Retail, Korail Logistics, Korail Tourism Development, Korail Networks and Korail Tech — as part of an effort to raise security standards across the entire group.
