The Busan Port Authority said Monday that Gao Liping, chairman of China's Shandong Port Group, visited the authority Saturday to discuss ways to expand port and logistics cooperation between the two organizations.

Shandong Port Group is a state-owned enterprise established in August 2019 with approval from the Shandong Provincial People's Government. It manages and operates four major port groups — Qingdao, Rizhao, Yantai and Bohai Bay — along with 21 key port zones. As of 2025, the group recorded annual cargo throughput of about 1.9 billion tons and container throughput of approximately 48 million TEUs.

The Busan Port Authority said the visit was arranged "to further expand exchanges in the port and logistics sector on the basis of our longstanding friendship and cooperative relationship with Shandong Port Group, and to explore avenues for joint development amid the rapidly changing global shipping and logistics environment."

During the visit, the Shandong Port Group delegation received a briefing on Busan Port's current operations and key project directions, and the two sides exchanged views on areas for cooperation.

The Busan Port Authority shared its port operations experience accumulated as a transshipment hub, along with major achievements including smart port development, digital transformation, eco-friendly port operations and the expansion of its overseas logistics network. Shandong Port Group introduced its port development and operations experience and its logistics network across China, and both sides agreed on the need for continued cooperation to strengthen the stability and efficiency of the Northeast Asian maritime logistics network.
