The Gangdong Greenway Walking Festival and Summer Night Concert

Seoul's Gangdong-gu will hold the 99th Gangdong Greenway Walking Festival and the 2026 Summer Night Concert back-to-back at the Iljasan Grass Plaza on Saturday, July 11.

The event lets participants take a leisurely walk along the Iljasan trail before settling in for an outdoor music concert. No advance registration is required — anyone can join on the day — and the district expects strong turnout from local residents.

The walking festival kicks off at 5:40 p.m. with a pre-ceremony taekwondo demonstration by the Gangdong-gu Taekwondo Exhibition Team, followed by an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Participants will set out from the grass plaza, pass through the family campsite and urban agriculture park, and return to the starting point — a roughly 1.5-kilometer loop that takes about 30 minutes. The route was chosen with summer weather in mind so that people of all ages can complete it comfortably.

Finishers will also be entered into a prize draw.

Once the walk wraps up, the 2026 Summer Night Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on the same grass plaza. Singers Jadu and Tei will take the stage alongside the Gangdong District Folk Arts Ensemble, blending popular music with traditional Korean orchestral music for a varied program. The open-air setting offers families and neighbors a relaxed way to enjoy a summer evening together.

"I hope the time spent walking, resting and listening to music amid the green scenery of Iljasan leaves residents with warm memories," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said.

Heavy traffic is expected around Iljasan on the day of the event, so organizers recommend using public transportation.
