72.9 billion won to fund a three-basement, four-story complex housing administrative, welfare, cultural and sports facilities under one roof
Swimming pool, daycare center and senior welfare center among amenities in multigenerational complex targeting September 2030 completion
Gangdong-gu in Seoul is moving ahead with plans to build a long-awaited public-cultural integrated center for residents of Amsa 1-dong.
The center will be built across four lots at 474-6 Amsa 1-dong, covering a site area of 2,909.5 square meters and a total floor area of 9,234 square meters. The structure will span three below-ground floors and four above-ground floors, with a total project cost of 72.9 billion won ($54.4 million).
The district office said it will hold a public briefing on the design Thursday at 7 p.m. in the main hall on the third floor of the Amsa 1-dong community center.
The briefing will present the project's progress, architectural design direction and floor-by-floor space layout to residents, and gather public feedback.
The project focuses on consolidating aging and scattered public facilities into a single location to improve convenience for residents.
Key facilities will include the Amsa 1-dong community service center and neighborhood hall, a small-scale senior welfare center, a swimming pool, a daycare center, a youth hub and a small library. The district envisions the complex as a neighborhood hub integrating administrative, welfare, cultural and sports functions — a space for all generations, from children to the elderly.
Gangdong-gu plans to continue collecting resident input following Thursday's briefing and incorporate feedback into the design. The district aims to finalize the design by August 2027, break ground in September of the same year and complete construction in September 2030.
"The Amsa 1-dong public-cultural integrated center will go beyond simply building a new public facility — it will serve as a hub that improves residents' quality of life and injects vitality into the community," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "We will push the project forward without delay to answer residents' long-held hopes and create a space they can use conveniently in their daily lives."
