With the summer vacation season approaching, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization are preparing to unveil their "100x100 Landmarks Discovery Project" to the public following a nationwide vote.
The initiative is part of a broader summer campaign bringing together the government, the business community, local governments and the Korea Tourism Organization to share the message that South Korea has far more great destinations than many people realize.
The Korea Tourism Organization participated Saturday in the "Heart-Pounding K-Vacation: Smart Domestic Travel Campaign" — known as the K-Vacation campaign — held at the Mulbit Stage Plaza in Yeouido Han River Park, where it promoted the "100x100 Landmarks Discovery Project."
The organization also conducted public outreach for a range of summer travel programs, including the "2026 Korea Summer Lodging Sale Festa."
The K-Vacation campaign, running under the slogan "Travel close, fire up the domestic economy," is a summer domestic travel promotion jointly hosted by the Korea Federation of Enterprises, the Korea Tourism Organization and the Korea Fishing Village and Fishery Harbor Association.
The campaign follows an MOU signed last November among four government ministries — the Ministry of Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries — and six business associations: the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the Korea Employers Federation, the Korea Federation of Enterprises, the Korea International Trade Association and the Korea Federation of Middle Market Enterprises. The parties signed the agreement to boost regional economies and domestic tourism, and a range of programs to highlight local attractions are set to follow.
At Saturday's event, the Korea Tourism Organization encouraged public participation in the 100x100 project vote alongside promotions for the lodging sale and other travel benefits.
The 100x100 project is a participatory initiative in which 100 travel experts select 100 travel themes, and the public then votes to identify 100 notable destinations for each theme. Participants who vote and complete a verification step receive gifts such as magnets, keyrings and picnic mats.
A variety of other domestic travel programs were also featured, including the Korea Federation of Enterprises' stopwatch event "Grab 8 Seconds and Head to All Eight Provinces" and a fishing village workcation program run by the Korea Fishing Village and Fishery Harbor Association.
"We hope this campaign — with the government, the business community and public institutions joining hands to promote domestic travel — gives more people the chance to enjoy a vacation at home this holiday season," said Kim Seok-il, head of the domestic travel promotion team.
The public can cast votes for the 100x100 project through the "Travel Month" page on the Korea Tourism Organization's "Corners of Korea" website. Voting runs from June 29 through July 10, and the 100 selected destinations across 100 themes will be used to further drive domestic travel promotion over the summer.
