EX30 and EX30CC combined for 946 units in June
EV models outsell combustion variants for first time since company founding
Price starts in the 30 million won range with subsidies applied
Volvo Car Korea announced Thursday that its all-electric SUVs, the EX30 and EX30 Cross Country, topped sales in the premium compact electric vehicle segment in June.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, Volvo Car Korea sold a total of 1,679 vehicles in the domestic market last month, a 58 percent increase from the previous month. The EX30 and EX30CC accounted for 946 of those sales, or about 56 percent of the total.
The June result marks the highest monthly sales figure for an EV model since Volvo Car Korea introduced electric vehicles to the domestic market in 2022. A company official called it "a symbolic milestone — the first time since the company's founding that EV models have outsold both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in fuel-type sales."
Industry observers credit strong price competitiveness as a key factor. Despite offering flagship-level safety technology, premium convenience features, advanced cabin safety systems, a 1,040-watt Harman Kardon premium sound system and strong driving performance, the EX30 is available for 36.7 million won ($23,600) in Seoul after electric vehicle subsidies are applied, based on the Core trim. In Ulleung-gun, buyers can purchase the vehicle for 32.78 million won.
Standard benefits include a five-year or 100,000-kilometer general parts warranty and major consumables replacement service — among the best in the industry — an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer high-voltage battery warranty, 15 years of free over-the-air software updates, and a five-year 5G digital services package.
"The EX30 and EX30CC are accelerating the shift to electrification by combining the safety and human-centered comfort our customers expect from Volvo with advanced connectivity and user experience — all at a price that is among the most competitive in the world," said Lee Yun-mo, president of Volvo Car Korea. He added that the company plans to secure additional inventory for the second half of this year to meet surging demand, and will lead the mainstream adoption of premium EVs through the EX90, set to begin deliveries in the second half, and the ES90, whose launch is imminent.
Meanwhile, Volvo Car Korea recently launched pre-orders for the next-generation all-electric flagship ES90 at all 39 of its official showrooms nationwide, as the company moves to broaden consumer choice by actively introducing competitive new models across multiple segments.
