8.75 billion won, including 4.73 billion won in state funds, to be invested in 99,995-square-meter zone
Dongducheon said Thursday that its Saengyeon 1-dong project has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2026 "Our Neighborhood Revitalization" urban regeneration program.
The ministry's Our Neighborhood Revitalization program aims to improve deteriorating residential environments in small communities that have lost vitality due to population decline and aging buildings, by supplying community-oriented public facilities. Dongducheon drew up a project plan covering a 99,995-square-meter area around Pyeonghwa-ro and Hanbitnuri High School in Saengyeon 1-dong and was selected through the competitive application process.
With the selection, Dongducheon secured 4.73 billion won in national government funding out of a total project budget of 8.75 billion won ($5.63 million). From 2027 through 2030, the city will carry out a series of improvements in the project area: establishing a community hub platform called Sedae-ON, building two safe parks (Safe Park No. 1 and No. 2), remodeling the Saengyeon 1-dong senior center, creating safe alleyways, developing a silver walking trail, constructing a safe school commute route, and running a home repair and community accompaniment program.
"Through this Our Neighborhood Revitalization project, I expect the Saengyeon 1-dong site — which has a high proportion of aging housing — to become a more vibrant and safer residential area," Mayor Park Hyeong-deok said. "We will continue to do our best to make Dongducheon a lively city every day through various urban regeneration projects."
