Competition runs through July 12 at Seonak River Rowing and Canoe Venue; more than 600 athletes from across the country to compete in two divisions

The 52nd Jangbogo Cup National Rowing Championships — widely regarded as the most prestigious rowing competition in the country — will be held from Saturday through July 12 at the Seonak River Rowing and Canoe Venue in Busan.

The Jangbogo Cup was established in 1975 to honor the legacy of Jangbogo, the maritime commander known as the "King of the Sea," and to lay the groundwork for Korean rowing on the world stage. Now in its 52nd edition, the event is co-hosted by the Busan Metropolitan Government and the Korea Rowing Association, with the Busan Metropolitan Rowing Association serving as the organizing body.

The competition is divided into two divisions: Division 1 for professional athletes, running Saturday through Monday, and Division 2 for recreational club members, held July 11 to 12. More than 600 athletes from across the country are expected to compete across 84 events in 24 categories. Events include the eight, single sculls, coxless pair and indoor rowing, among the 84 total disciplines on the program.

Competitors finishing first through third in each event will receive a certificate and medal, while the overall division champions will be awarded the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries trophy, a championship pennant and a winner's cup.
