GC Biopharma said Wednesday it received amended approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for Peramiflu Premix, an IV bag formulation of its influenza treatment Peramiflu that covers both influenza A and B, and is now preparing for a full commercial launch.

Peramiflu Premix is an injectable flu treatment using peramivir, a neuraminidase inhibitor that was the first of its kind to receive US Food and Drug Administration approval.

The new product is a ready-to-use, or RTU, IV bag formulation that can be administered directly without a separate dilution step. The design cuts preparation time for medical staff and eliminates the risk of dosing errors, maximizing patient safety.

The original Peramiflu has been a preferred product at medical facilities during annual flu seasons, distinguished by its single-dose regimen — unlike conventional antivirals taken as pills or inhaled through the nose. In practice, it has become an established alternative for children and elderly patients who have difficulty swallowing medication, as well as for severely ill patients who need rapid symptom relief. Its faster fever-reduction effect before symptoms worsen, and its lower incidence of side effects such as vomiting and nausea compared with oral antivirals, are also cited as advantages.

GC Biopharma plans to begin supplying Peramiflu Premix to medical institutions this month, ahead of the flu season.

"The launch of Peramiflu Premix has allowed us to complete our peramivir portfolio alongside the vial formulation," a company official said. "We will continue to meet the needs of medical professionals, provide a safer administration environment and raise patient satisfaction."
