Teaser video released Tuesday via YouTube, Instagram; new form factor broadens user choice
Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed the launch of a "Wide Fold," adding a third form factor to its existing Fold and Flip lineup. The company plans to expand the foldable experience in the AI era by giving users a new option alongside its established designs.
Samsung Electronics released a video Tuesday outlining the new direction for its eighth-generation foldable phone lineup.
Posted on Samsung Electronics' official global Instagram and YouTube accounts, the eighth-generation foldable teaser used everyday imagery — snapping a long chocolate bar, tearing a photo sticker strip — to hint at the proportions and shape of the new device.
The video signals that Samsung will not only deepen the core experience of its existing form factors but also add a "new option" to broaden the range of choices available to users, pointing to the forthcoming Wide Fold alongside the Fold and Flip.
Specifically, Samsung Electronics said it will further strengthen the Fold's performance and refine the Flip's distinctive usability. The lineup will deliver a wider, more natural and more immersive experience, giving users that "new option."
Samsung said the move is not simply about increasing the number of products, but about widening the scope of the foldable experience for the AI era, drawing on seven generations of accumulated technology and user understanding. The company added that the eighth-generation foldable lineup is meant to answer not just "why foldable?" but "which foldable is right for me?"
Through this expansion, Samsung Electronics aims to set a new standard for the foldable category and drive its next phase of growth.
According to Samsung Electronics, the lineup expansion was built on foldable technology leadership and consumer insights accumulated over seven generations.
Since introducing the first Galaxy Fold in 2018, Samsung Electronics has continuously pioneered the foldable category with two flagship lines: the Galaxy Z Fold, which emphasizes large-screen multitasking and productivity, and the Galaxy Z Flip, which highlights compact portability and personal style. Industry observers say seven generations of foldable innovation have been a process of refining and elevating both pillars.
