Im In-hwan, a city council member representing Jung-gu District 1, is expected to be named speaker of the 10th Daegu City Council for the first half of its term by consensus.
According to People Power Party officials, the 34 PPP members elected to the Daegu City Council in the June 3 local elections held a meeting recently and agreed to nominate Im as speaker.
With 34 of the council's 36 seats held by PPP members, Im is widely expected to assume the speakership barring any unexpected development.
Im secured a third consecutive term in the local elections.
The Daegu City Council plans to elect its speaker and deputy speaker on Monday, then wrap up its organizational setup with the election of standing committee chairs on Wednesday and Thursday.
